My Issues

At this point, I think I need to at least offer some sort of explanation to people. I've been erratic at best at getting things done, getting things shipped out to people, etc.

Long story short, I'm having a tough battle with depression. We're still trying to figure out something that works; half of September and October has been spent in the dumps and no even getting out of bed. My concentration levels are far from ideal, too, to the point where I haven't been able to do school work at a level that would allow me to keep my scholarships. So that's been extra amounts of worrying. This is all hardly an excuse for neglecting previous commitments, but that's what I'm going through right now, and trying to get enough help to fight my way out.

Rest assured, I'm at least keeping a running list of things that need to be done/sent to people. IT's just taking a lot more time to function normally, let alone start doing things again.

What's Been Going On!

Well, first thing's first. My most recent project, aside from finishing things and trying to get things shipped out:

Taking a Super Soaker Arctic Shock and making a nice Nerf pistol out of it. And by pistol, I mean "DEATH FOAM". In any case, I'm gonna replace the pump, add LEDs to the tank, and a few other things before I'm through. I'd really like some kind of pressure indicator (or better yet, an electric pressure switch to run tubing to, that's make the LEDs light up once you get to a pressure you can fire at).

November Update - Good to be back!

Hey guys!
It's been a rough few weeks, but I'm back to posting, shipping items back to people, etc. Paypal is due to finally free up money, so I can actually print off postage for packages. That's one of the things that will never make sense to me - you decide to freeze someone's payments, which INCLUDES postage. So unless the person has money on hand, they can't actually use the postage money sent to them. Oh well. Shit like this will continue until they figure out how to classify Paypal (not technically a bank or what have you, so many laws don't apply to them).

So yes, guys in Singapore (whether it's attempting to send packages for the first OR second time): expect notices this week that you're items are being shipped. They're long overdue. Everyone else's stuff will get shipped in the order it was due/sent to me for modding.

Posts on modding/other Nerfy goodness in a bit. Later!

SCREW THE POST OFFICE

Excuse me for my late night ranting.

I went down to the front desk this morning, as I had an email saying I had packages. Ok, nothing unusual, I get them all the time.

The girl grabs both packages. RETURN TO SENDER.

Despite the fact that I have sent lots of packages to Singapore, to the exact same addresses, the Post Office apparently thinks they don't exist. WHAT THE HELL???????

We'll see about convincing the Post Ofice these are legit addresses. You know, SINCE I HAVE RECEIPTS AND RECORDS FOR THE PREVIOUS PACKAGES. I a;ready had a shipment of Hornet parts disappear into the aether; I'd rather not have to put up with this.

My luck, I'll take it back and it'll be 0.05 ounces above the marked postage. In which case, the local PO's scale needs to be recalibrated.

SCREW YOU.

Nerf Thunder from Down Under

Lately I've been lurking and talking on some of the foreign Nerfing sites; and have recently been involved with some of the guys at Australian Nerf, talking mods, arranging things for trading back and forth, etc. Anyways, I figured I'd link to a few mods I've come across on their forums that I though were pretty creative. I'll be posting a nice pic of the mod, followed by the link.

The TornadoSNAP is here!

After lots of work, I have adapted SNAP-style thinking to the Tornadobow, with good results.

You can read the writeup at Nerf Revolution or Nerfhaven to see how I did it and join the discussion.

Reclaimer for Sale!

Yep, it has to go. Sadly, I'm short on funds until after Hell before Halloween. So this is going on Ebay, if you want it.

Link: Ebay Page

I will be shipping this after I use it at Hell before Halloween (why mod something, to never use it?). Read the text on the selling page for more info. Thanks!

Current Work

Just figured I'd throw up a pic showing the things I'm working on. There's a nearly complete Doomsayer, the TornadoSNAP I'm finishing, and a SM1.5K I plan on adding a reserve tank to (not sure whether to make it reserve as in extra shots, or to expand air flow to the firing tank and have a turreted 4B equivalent).

Nerf Scout Winner

Congrats to Taerkitty on being the randomly selected winner of a to-be-painted Nerf Scout. I'll post pics when it's done, haha :P

Buffdaddy Presents: The Reclaimer

After lots of work, my first real Longshot project is (mostly) done!
Admit it, you want to make sweet sweet love to this blaster.

As far as modifications are concerned: I have a cut down K26, reinforced spring rest, reinforced catch and catch spring, modified PETG breech, boltsled reinforced with aluminum sheeting, AR removal, and deadspace removal. Also the paintjob. In case that wasn't obvious. Paintjob is iffy in a few areas, but considering this is my first real foray into major painting, I'm very pleased with it.

Also, since this was my first major Longshot, I decided to have fun with it and add LEDs. Just took $5 to get a string and battery pack at Michaels. I didn't get as nice a diffusion of light as I wanted, but for a first time, it'll do.
The switch. Battery back can be accessed once the blaster is opened up.

Several LEDs shining everywhere.

Thanks to Forsaken Angel for questions concerning LEDs, The Inventor Guy for his Aluminum Breech (I used PETG in my variant), and the community in general for the knowledge obtained modding Longshots.

Right now, I'm only getting 70' with slugs. I still need to tighten up the plunger seal and make the breech airtight, so after those steps, performance should be much better.

Longshot, Long Time Coming

Yep, Epicness is coming.

Whoa, People are Watching Me!

Why the heck not? I figured I'd post odd things here in there while Nerfing, and we have a 1000 pageviews! Sweet!

As a thank you, I'm going to do up a Scout, with the works (modded, paintjob, etc). Post comments on this thread, and on Wednesday at 11pm, I'll randomly select the winner!

Everyone needs a good sidearm, right?

I haven't decided on a color scheme, but let's be clear: enter at your own risk. You might ed up with a pink or fluorescent blaster. But one that kicks ass ;)

Sonic Bazooka Mod

Hey guys!

Just posting the link for my Sonic Bazooka modification; I'm hitting 90'+ on 4 pumps, 105'+ with 5 pumps. Using slug darts,of all things.

Check it out at my Nerfhaven Mod Thread!

Air Zone Quickfire Review

Just found and bought at the East Lansing Toys R Us. Right off the bat, the aesthetics are a win.
Behold, the key to being Rambo.

Right off the bat, looking at it, it's a cross between a Vulcan (chain and rotation), Stampede (looks), and Auto Tommy 20 (flywheel). The "clip" holds 6 AA batteries, and there's an On/Off switch on the left side. Turn it on, the flywheels spin up. The trigger then fires the darts in automatic.

With a removable, collapsible stock.

Has an electric switch linked to the presence of a chain, just like the Vulcan.

In its full glory.

Here's a quick firing video; I'm a bit angled here, but I'm getting 40' flat stock. So far, have had no feeding troubles or misfires.

The blaster looks great, feels great, and shoots great. While flywheels defeat any attempt at stealth and limit modding potential, I could see myself using this at a stock Nerf war, or (once the voltage is increased) as a suppression/Defend the Core blaster at a modified war.

Selling Random Things

Help! I'm Dyeing!

The past day or so, I decided to do something different: dye my clear Recon for uniqueness, while keeping the translucent properties. To that end, I filled a plastic dishwashing pan with water and RIT dye, submerged the clear pieces, and heated everything up in the microwave (the heating appliance that was handy). A few hours of a virtual sauna later, I have a crystal purple Recon. Everything else is still stock, but now it's unique!

Weekly Update

I figure I might as well shoot some videos to show you guys what I'm doing. Else there's no reason for you subscribers to remain so :P

September 25, 2011

YOU SHALL NOT PAS!

Finished painting and clear coating the PAS. It's getting 90' flat with a hopper of slug darts, and it is, like, totally stylish!
Now we just need rainbows and unicorns for ultimate effeminacy.

Hey, as long as I'm concerned, as long as it's hitting the target, I don't care what color it is.
Also up for sale!

The Spartan 5K

Totally had to do Michigan State colors. Because I probably shouldn't do everything in pink.
OHHHHHH, PRETTTTTYYYYYYY

Undecided on whether to keep it or not, so feel free to offer. Pump is unplugged, and the top barrel holder is drilled out to serve as either a sight or as a holder for an RSCB clip. Performs....like a 5K.

EDIT: Tenatively sold.

Nerf Vortex Updates

First, I finally found some Vortex Mission Kits at Walmart. You can finally get those extra clips!
Only  few bucks more than getting the ammo refill.

Also of note, while cruising the interwebs, I found an easy way to expand your clips to hold ton of discs. Crazy for Nerf used fluorescent light protector tubes (available at any major hardware store) and wire from notebooks to make a 27-round clip, and it's roughly the same size as a Stampede clip. Earlier discussions on the NIC had suggested using PVC and Reactor advancement springs, but this appears to work great.
CrazyforNerf, that is simply genius.

Assuming you have the discs to fill it, this is a great way to get extended clips without buying a Nitron (Praxis is better by far).

Painting and Stuff

After school, I went and did some painting. The two of these were rather lacking in the beauty department, so I gave my own personal touch.
I call it "A Woman Scorned"

I'll be doing the white parts tomorrow for the 5K.

The PAS has the stock + random giant ass spring I found; range testing to commence once I'm finished. It's also had its plunger rod overhauled (it broke after 3 shots, STOCK) with some 5/16" steel rod, push nuts, and copious amounts of JB Weld.

The 5K needs a coupler or clip slapped on it; I have the top barrel holding accessory drilled out for an RSCB clip.

How Difficult Is It to Enter Nerf?

This is more of a philosophical question regarding the current state of the NIC. Putting aside things like Humans v. Zombies and stock wars where the entry level is pretty easy (aka grab a blaster and go), large scale Nerf Wars are a special beast. Most participants are going to be using blasters that get at least 70' flat (a rather conservative estimate) unless it's a special gametype or they just want to mess around. For the person just starting to get interested in modding, there's a large barrier between how far they can shoot and the ever-increasing numbers of homemades on the field. There are relatively few blasters anymore that new people can grab off the shelf and quickly mod to get decent ranges (Big Blasts are discontinued; the UMB is getting pulled off shelves, etc). Offhand, the only readily-available blasters these days that would be remotely competitive for a beginning modder to slap couplers onto are the Big Bad Bow, Triple Shot, Berzerker variants, and....that's it.While it's certainly possible to split up said noobs to even out teams, etc, it's certainly not fun for them, since they're going to be killed off before they can even hit anyone.
NOT the ideal blaster versus a pumpbow.

Aside from people always bringing loaner weapons (which isn't always possible), has the barrier to a fun time become just too darn high? After all, if you're not even remotely competitive, you're not going to have any fun.

Perhaps I'm not expecting enough out of people; while it's easy enough to say, grab a 2K off of Ebay, it still feels strange that in order to be competitive, new players have to search and pay extra for older blasters.

I certainly did fine entering Nerf. My first mod was a spring-added Longshot with a reinforced boltsled, AR removal, and weighted streamlines. Not the most ideal weapon for my first war, but it worked; and by the time the first Vengeance in Ontario came around 5 months later, I had already made a competitive Doomsayer. But not all people are like that and can just pick things up. (Not to mention they keep getting banned off of Nerf forums for never actually reading and following the CoC. Some people never learn...)
Lucky for my guest Dr. Science, I had built more than just a Doomsayer by then.

Enough rambling for this morning; feel free to chime in!

Contracts

For those wondering, I do contracts for people in spare time. I have experience with many kinds of mods/overhauls, ranging from turret-based blasters (Quadshots and Doomsayers) to air-powered blasters (Big Blasts, Airtechs, etc) to some original homemade blasters (click HERE for more info).

If asking for a mod, email me HERE. PLEASE include the following:

Blaster desired for modding/painting
Blaster availability/rarity: (i.e. Do you have it? If not, I'm buying the blaster, and that will be included in material costs. Offer accordingly)
Specifics on the desired mod (breeches/hoppers, barrel materials, spring additions, etc)
Offer for the mod (if the offer doesn't even cover basic material costs, I will send back a counteroffer).
-Please note the offer does not include shipping

HELLO NERFERS!

Hey guys!
This is Buffdaddy; many of you know me or my work, whether it be from various Nerf Wars, or the various Nerf forums online. I doubt I need to say more as to the purpose of this blog, other then we're going to talk all things Nerf, show mods, and occasionally sell blasters I need to unload from the collection.

People laugh at pink. They stop laughing once they've been shot from 100+ feet.

Well, let's get started!
